Because of the lack of refinement, Bulk African Shea Butter has a pale yellowish color and has the typical odor normally associated with Shea Butter. It may also contain sediment, small amounts of shell, plant fiber, etc. This shea butter comes from Burkina Faso, Africa and is certified organic.

There is also less of an odor, which is why refined butter is the normal choice for the soap making and personal care industry.
Unrefined Shea Butter – We also sell butter that is left unrefined. This gives it a pale yellowish color and has the typical odor normally associated with Shea Butter.
Please note: Our 55 lb blocks of organic naturally refined and unrefined shea butter are certified organic. Our smaller sizes are not yet certified organic. We are in the process of having them certified.

Best Shea butter ever!
This is my 2nd purchase of this Shea Butter. I first ordered the 7# size and loved it so much, I just ordered the 55# box of it! This Shea Butter does not compare to the many other brands I've used over the years. It is naturally refined, so it does not have that pungent Shea Butter odor - it is virtually odorless, and it is SO creamy and silky! I absolutely love it. I use it in soaps, lotions, balms and more. My customers love the final product and I feel good about using such quality ingredients in my products.

Product is great but beware on knowing if it is in stock
I purchased the 7 pounds of shea butter on March 2 and received an email that my order was shipped, and would be delivered by march 7th. Imagine my surprise when I picked up a very light box, I had also ordered a .5 oz bottle of essential oil. When I opened the box, my essential oil and a packing slip for said essential order was in the box, but nothing else. No notice that shea butter was on back order nothing. I contacted bulk apothecary via online chat, and was told that the shea butter would be delivered to them "sometime this week and then it has to go thorough quality testing, once it passes testing then it has to be sent to factory to be packaged in smaller quantities which could take an additional 5 -7 days or longer" so from the date that I was told I would receive my product in email that said my product had been shipped, I will now have to wait an additional 8-12 days or longer- but they wasted no time charging my card for the full amount, and had I not contacted them I am not sure what would have happened since according to my account record online my products were shipped. The site still shows that this item is available when you put it in your cart. I never received notification that the item in question was not available. I will see how they resolve this before making a final decision in if I will be using them in the future for much larger orders.

Good quality shea butter
I had to settle for a smaller container of shea butter because the larger quantities were unavailable. What does that tell you? I love using this shea butter in soap and body butters because of its creamy and smooth consistency. I’m also impressed with the quick response and shipping times. My orders are usually shipped out within 24 hours. I’ve never received anything from Bulk Apothecary that was broken or leaking, or poor quality.
