white refined shea butter

Refined Shea Butter Bulk

Our bulk refined Shea Butter is great for cosmetics and soaps. After shea butter is extracted from the Shea nut the natural butter is filtered to remove any impurities, resulting in a creamy off white color and an ultra high quality pure product. The refined shea butter also has less odor, making it shea butter of choice for the soap making and personal care industry. This is definitely one of our best sellers.  This product comes from Burkina Faso, Africa.

Virgin Unrefined (certified organic) Shea Butter

Our Virgin Unrefined African Shea Butter is extracted from the Shea nut and left completely unrefined. Because of the lack of refinement, Bulk African Shea Butter has a pale yellowish color and has the typical odor normally associated with Shea Butter.   It may also contain sediment, small amounts of shell, plant fiber, etc.  This shea butter comes from Burkina Faso, Africa and is certified organic.

Shea Butter Benefits

Pure Shea Butter first became popular in Africa where it is widely used in cooking and medicinal purposes. Eventually it made its way to the west as more people discovered its amazing emollient qualities. Shea Butter has a high level of non-saponifiables and other qualities that makes it a popular ingredient in many cosmetic supplies, lotions, and other skin care products.

Shea Butter can improve skin elasticity, which has made it popular with both men and women. Today it is used as an essential ingredient for belly butters and stretch mark creams.

More than that, though, Shea Butter can also block the sun’s ultraviolet rays, so you will often find it as a major ingredient in sun block products, lip balms, and lip gloss. It can also be used as an anti-inflammatory and humectants which makes it very useful in medicinal ointments and creams.

Types of Shea Butter

At Bulk Apothecary we offer a couple different kinds of Shea Butter to fit your exact needs.

Refined Shea Butter – Our bulk refined Shea Butter is most often used for cosmetics and soaps. The process to refine the butter involves extracting it from the Shea nut and filtering out any of the impurities. This results in a creamy off-white color and an extremely pure product. There is also less of an odor, which is why refined butter is the normal choice for the soap making and personal care industry.

Unrefined Shea Butter – We also sell butter that is left unrefined. This gives it a pale yellowish color and has the typical odor normally associated with Shea Butter.

Please note: Our 55 lb blocks of organic naturally refined and unrefined shea butter are certified organic. Our smaller sizes are not yet certified organic. We are in the process of having them certified.

    First Time

Like it once it is rubbed in, but the consistency in the jar seems odd. Perhaps it hasn't been stored properly?

Have to try it, it's the BEST!!!

Posted by Sharon Burgess on 8th Dec 2015

I have always loved shea butter so when I saw this, I just had to try it. I just made body lotion and face cream. Wonderful! Shea butter is the best, and better this way because you know it's pure, and no chemicals added. You add what you want. I bought the organic unrefined, and will buy again.

    The Best Shea Butter.

Posted by YAHIRA RIVERA on 8th Dec 2015

I purchased the Shea Refined Butter. Propose is for homemade whipped butter body scrubs. I absolutely LOVE this shea butter. Creamy, very light in odor and easy to blend with any carrier oil. Highly recommend. :)

    Great Shea Butter

Posted by Satisfied customer on 7th Dec 2015

I make body butters using this Shea Butter... I have purchased from other companies and the Shea is almost always crumbly, but every batch I purchase from this company is nice and smooth! Love it!

    7lb Shea butter

Posted by Unknown on 7th Dec 2015

The Shea Butter is a good product for the price but I was a bit disappointed to find it to be gritty/grainy. I like to use raw Shea Butter for my products without having to melt it and this one I had to melt this one. Get rid of the gritty texture and I would give product a 5!

    I'm satisfied

It's really soft and has no smell at all. I bought it for whipping and it blends really well.

Easy to use and feels good everywhere

Posted by Derrick on 5th Dec 2015

I bought this Shea butter to moisturize my skin for the winter months. While it is thicker than the coconut oil I normally use. It absorbs just as good not leaving my skin feeling greasey. I use on my face, lips and body and it also helped to relieve the pain in my knee. Will definitely buy again.

    Awkward packaging

Posted by Natasha Garncarek on 1st Dec 2015

I ordered the 7lbs because I have a lot of whipped body butters to make and was surprised not to receive it in blocks, but melted and poured into a plastic container. I think it was stored somewhere warm because the butter was definitely grainy and slushy. Thankfully butters can be tempered and generally you should do that but I feel like this item could have been packaged better/easier to handle. melted nicely on contact and didn't feel any irritants. One star off for packaging (a little grip on the metal handle would have been nice and less painful for my hands)
