Because of the lack of refinement, Bulk African Shea Butter has a pale yellowish color and has the typical odor normally associated with Shea Butter. It may also contain sediment, small amounts of shell, plant fiber, etc. This shea butter comes from Burkina Faso, Africa and is certified organic.

The process to refine the butter involves extracting it from the Shea nut and filtering out any of the impurities. This results in a creamy off-white color and an extremely pure product. There is also less of an odor, which is why refined butter is the normal choice for the soap making and personal care industry.
Unrefined Shea Butter – We also sell butter that is left unrefined. This gives it a pale yellowish color and has the typical odor normally associated with Shea Butter.
Please note: Our 55 lb blocks of organic naturally refined and unrefined shea butter are certified organic. Our smaller sizes are not yet certified organic. We are in the process of having them certified.

I love this! I switched my hair and skin care over to more natural products. One of my co workers is in her late 40's, tans ALOT and still look like she's in her early 30's. She swears on Shea butter. So I figured while I was getting castor oil from here, why not check out some of the butter? I'm so glad I did, I mix it with a bit of hemp and rosehip oil for a night time moisturizer and I wake up with glowing skin! (Glowier than with just the oils) it's so smooth, and doesn't have a scent so I could mix it with essential oils too and smell fabulous! I'm so glad I found Bulk Apothecary, there's an EPIC selection products to choose from, and the prices and quality are great. I'll be reordering and finding lots of new stuff to order from here.

I've bought this Shea Butter twice now. The quality of the 1st box was great for the natural homemade products that I use, make and sell. www.GracesHomemade.com. I haven't used the 2nd box of it, but just know that the 55lb box is quite heavy and the box tore on the bottom when it was shipped.

7 pound virgin shea butter
i was pretty satisfied with this product other than the fact it was clearly melted and not stored properly hence the reason it was very grainy. the color was correct so was the smell it was definately like shea butter from my other sources but it had been melted and not resolidified properly causing grainy/grittiness. other than the the product was spot on. would considered purchasing again if i would know it would not be gritty as i like to make no heat/raw body butter which i cant do with gritty butters
