Because of the lack of refinement, Bulk African Shea Butter has a pale yellowish color and has the typical odor normally associated with Shea Butter. It may also contain sediment, small amounts of shell, plant fiber, etc. This shea butter comes from Burkina Faso, Africa and is certified organic.

There is also less of an odor, which is why refined butter is the normal choice for the soap making and personal care industry.
Unrefined Shea Butter – We also sell butter that is left unrefined. This gives it a pale yellowish color and has the typical odor normally associated with Shea Butter.
Please note: Our 55 lb blocks of organic naturally refined and unrefined shea butter are certified organic. Our smaller sizes are not yet certified organic. We are in the process of having them certified.

I am sooo happy that I was able to purchase the refined shea butter in the 55 pound block. I love the way it whips when I blend it, the shea has a nice light yellow tone to it and not a heavy nut scent. My customers love it.

The REAL stuff, unadulterated
Being new to the business, I wasn't sure what to expect, but I thought along the lines of body butters I have used. To my surprise, the shea butter was NOT like those, since those prepared products contain olive oils, mineral oils, vitamin E oils, water, conditioners, and preservatives. They are also whipped to be lighter. I am very pleased that I have pure heavy shea butter to which I can add my own ingredients. Used as it, right out of the jar and onto my face and arms, I found it melted into a wonderful emollient which was absorbed into my skin quickly and left my skin replenished for several hours. The product I ordered came sealed, filled to the top, fresh and pure. I am elated.

I bought this shea butter before and it was ultra creamy and smooth. This time it was very gritty and in tiny hard balls. It Should still work the same. I just wished it was smooth and creamy like before.

Unrefined
I ordered the unrefined because the refined Shea was out of stock. I was worried because it does stink and it's not smooth but in little hard balls. But, I have made 3 batches of CP soap with it and not bad smell or trouble of any kind.
